What are wool pellets and why would you use them in your garden, outdoor potted plants and houseplants?
Wool pellets are an environmentally friendly, 100% all natural, alternative to petroleum based fertilizers and the unsustainable harvesting of peat moss.
Wool pellets reduce watering frequency because they have a natural ability to absorb and retain large amounts of water, up to 20 times their weight, which they then slowly release back into the soil, providing a consistent moisture level to plant roots and minimizing the need for frequent watering.
Especially helpful in outdoor potted plants and hanging baskets, which tend to dry out more quickly, wool pellets will assist in keeping your plants thriving through the heat of summer.
Wool pellets break down slowly over time, providing a steady supply of nutrients for plants, including nitrogen as the main macronutrient, along with smaller amounts of potassium, calcium, magnesium and sulfur. Micronutrients found in wool pellets include iron, manganese, boron, copper, zinc and molybdenum.
Improve transplanting success by mixing wool pellets into the soil when planting new plants or seedlings, wool pellets will help keep the vulnerable new plant from drying out as it establishes roots in it's new environment.
Wool pellets can also assist in soil aeration and temperature regulation.
For seed starting, wool pellets can be used as well to keep vulnerable seeds moist through the germination process. Our Shredded Wool product is specifically designed to make it easier to get a smooth consistent product, better suited for seed starting.
Deter snails and slugs by creating a barrier around your plants on the surface of the soil.
The wool pellets at Curly Goat Ranch are all made from sheep and goats raised here in Arizona.
The packaging for all of our soil amendments is environmentally friendly compostable cardboard or kraft paper. We avoid the use of plastic in our products and shipping supplies as much as possible.
